What Do I See In My Near Future?

Hello everyone (new and old) welcome to my blog! Today’s blog post is going to be about what I believe will be in my future. There is not a day that goes by that my parents ask me “hey love, do you have any plans for the near future?” Now I understand that this is a repetitive question that parents ask all the time, however, I just tell my parents I do not know yet.

I really do believe that it is important for an individual to plan for the near future for the sole purpose of being as prepared as possible. Nonetheless, the one thing that I do not like to think about is speeding up time. In my personal opinion, I believe that enjoying the moment for what it is will be more satisfying than thinking about what will happen 5 years from now. I remember when I was a kid, I always wished that I could be a grown adult sooner than later. Now, I wish I could have stayed at my young age for at least a little bit more time.

Do I have plans for my future? Of course I do! I would love to travel more around the world including China, USA, and possibly Singapore. I want to learn how to speak and read different languages. I have a desire to learn first hand how different cultures live, I also want to see how the rest of the world perceive how Dutch people are.

If you are reading this ma and pa, this is the answer you have been waiting for. This may not be the most detailed answer that you want, but this is what I seen in my future… traveling the world as much as possible! I would love to travel with my entire family at some point and explore the world. Maybe this is something that we can talk about at the next family dinner.

Readers… what do you see in your future? It can be short-term or long-term (1-5+ years) goals/dreams that you would like to see in your future. Also let me know if your parents are just as persistent about inquiring your future as my parents are (haha)! Until next time, I love you all and I will see you in the next blog post.

Am I In A Relationship At The Current Moment?

Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog! Today me and a few of my best friends decided to sit back, enjoy some coffee at the cafe, and talk about life. One thing that I love about my best friends is that we can literally talk about anything together without hesitation at all. We are a mix a 3 women (including myself) and 3 men.

Yesterday my friend Laura randomly asked out loud “So who is still not in a relationship yet because I will find your soulmate for you now!” Of course this is going to be a running joke until everyone is eventually in a relationship and married. Oddly enough, there is 1 woman and 1 guy that is single in our circle of best friends.

If you guessed early… yes, I am the single lady in our group (haha)! While we continued to talk, I started to ask myself “what if I never find myself in a relationship?” Nonetheless, once I opened up to my friends about the situation, they pretty much stood by me and supported my answer regardless.

Want to know what I think about relationships?

One day I would absolutely love to be in a relationship with a handsome man that I can call my own. At some point (maybe in my 30s) I would like to be married and have a family. I do not see myself being a stay-at-home housewife because I love working as a web developer and exploring outdoors way too much. I can only imagine staying at home more than I am outside. I would love to take my kids out hiking or exploring different parts of the country and world (when they are old enough and only during holiday breaks of course).

Right now I may be single, but it is because I am not looking for a relationship. I believe that my next boyfriend should be someone that I have a lot in common with. Someone that I can look at and say “he inspires me to be a better woman every day.” I am not too fond of these new dating apps where people meet online and what not, I prefer to meet naturally and in person. Who knows, maybe I will find my soulmate in our local cafe shop if I stay there long enough!

If I may ask… what do you all think about relationships at your age? Are you currently in a relationship/marriage with someone that you believe is your soulmate? Are you single and looking for a relationship? Or are you like me and letting fate take its course with your love life?

What Are My Hobbies Outside Of Work?

Now that you all have heard about my childhood and my professional life, I woke up today thinking this would be a great time to lighten up a bit more. I want to tell you all about the personal hobbies that I enjoy on a daily basis!

As you may have read from my previous blog post about my childhood (which if you have not read it, I suggest you go back and read it please) you know that reading is a big part of my life. When I am not working, I enjoy being able to visit the library close to my home or visit my mum and pa’s home to seek new books. Currently I am reading Julie & Julia. If you do not know, Julia Child’s is an icon in the culinary world as an American cook who wanted to master the art of French cuisine her whole life. Now Julie on the other hand, has a similar passion that Julie had, yet she lives in a different (more modern era). I don’t want to spoil the book (or the movie) too much, so I will just recommend it to you as a highly favorable suggestion.

This brings me to my next hobby, which is growing my own herbs at home. I love cooking at home and prefer it over spending copious amounts of money at restaurants. Now this does not mean that I never dine out at restaurants at all, I just prefer those ventures to not happen every single day. I currently have over 50 pots of herbs including (but not limited to) Rosemary, Italian Parsley, Sage, Purple Basil, Lemon Basil, Chives, and more. There is something very therapeutic about being able to plant seeds and within weeks or months watch them blossom to beautiful delicacies.

My last hobby that I love to partake in is photography. I remember my pa telling me when I was a kid “a picture may say a thousand words by the timeless quote, but what you say about the pictures you take have no word limit.”

That is all that I have for you today and I really hope that you enjoyed reading this blog post. Share with me and the other readers what your favorite hobbies are and why. Until next time, I love you all and have a great day!

How Did I Get My Nickname Bubbles?

Hey everyone! I hope you all are having a lovely day/afternoon/evening/night as you are reading this blog post. As you can see, I am becoming a lot more confident in my blogging and what I share with you all. This is going to be one of the more personal blog posts that I share with you all, mixed with a little bit of humor. I did not think in my wildest dreams that anyone would ever read my blog posts and talk about them in public. However, this past week I have learned that some of my co-workers have began reading my blog!

One of my co-workers approached me as I started my shift this morning and said to me “Bubbles, how come you did not tell us that you are a blogger now?!?!” Oddly enough, this is where you all get to hear the story of how I got the nickname Bubbles from my co-workers (haha)!

I am a Web Developer at the Dutch Online Casino Portal Nederlandse Gokkasten or also called speel gokkasten. I have been working here for almost 3 years now and I absolutely love it! My co-workers are amazing and my job position is equally as amazing. Sometimes I get to work from home when I am feeling under the weather, or if there is not much work to do in the office. While I did not plan this 3 yeas ago, it is actually perfect for me now as I can work from home and blog as well.

I remember the exact moment I got my nickname Bubbles so hopefully you all laugh with me and not at me (haha)! It was my 3rd day on the job and I was still considered “the new kid in the office” so while the veteran employees were a bit grumpy because of the rain and thunderstorm that was going on, I was extremely happy about work and the weather! One of my co-workers (let’s call her Jane for the sake of privacy) started having small conversation with me.

“Why are you so happy on such a gloomy day?” – Jane asked me
“Well, I have nothing to be sad or grumpy about. I love this type of weather and I love this job!” – I replied with a big smile on my face.
“Well you know what, from now on I am going to call you Bubbles!” – Jane said in a sarcastic manner.
“Hey you guys, I know this does not seem like the best day to stay in the office and work all day. We are going to be ordering food for you all today so you do not have to go out for lunch.” My boss said with glee in his voice.
“See, how is there any way that I could be mad about a day like this?” I stated to Jane.
“Well, you seem to always find the best in everything Bubbles. Have a great day and I will see you at lunch.” – Jane said as she walked back to her office.

Now you know how I got my nickname bubbles! It was not from my family or my friends, it was from my quirky and nerdy co-workers that looked at me as always being happy and bubbly all the time. Let me know in the comments how did you get your nickname. Was it from your friends, family, co-worker, or did you make it up yourself?

I hope you all have an amazing day today no matter how the weather is and I will see you all next blog post.

My Childhood History

Today I woke up and I wondered about what could be the first topic-based blog post that I share with you all. I tend to set my alarm to 06:00am because I love being able to look at the sunrise every day. My parents always told me that when I was a baby I would wake up early no matter how long I slept the previous night. Now that I am having some pastries and coffee on my day off from work, why not share with you all important notes of my childhood.

I was born and raised in Brussels, Belgium with my mum, my pa, and my two younger sisters. We lived in a spacious home, but I wouldn’t say that we were wealthy by at all. Both of my parents were Liberians , which is how they met each other, and eventually got married. Every day my mum would wake me and my sisters up for school while my dad was in his office reading books. I was inspired by him so much that I started asking to read with him.

This is where my curiosity for reading and writing came into play.

My pa would let me read mystery stories that were suitable for my age and nothing else. As time passed and I became a teenager, he began to let me have pastries and coffee with him in his office, and read books as well. He would ask me what I think about the books I read (as he already read them previously) and would challenge me to think deeper than just surface deep. At the time, I was unaware of why he was challenging me in such a manner, but now as a grown adult I definitely understand.

As I sit here and finish the last of my Danish Bread Pudding and coffee (no cream or sugar just like my pa taught me) at 07:34am, I now have more confidence in what I want this blog to turn into. I want to be able to share my personal life story with everyone! No matter how scared I may be once I press the “post” button, at least I will know that I am challenging myself in the same manner that my pa did me when I was a kid.

Introducing Myself (Femke Sieraden)

Hello everyone, my name is Femke Sieraden and welcome to my blog! I am really excited to finally start this because over the past few years I have been a bit hesitant about starting my own blog. I did not know how individuals would receive it nor did I know exactly the direction I wanted to take here. Should I talk about my personal life (including my family)? Should I just keep it professional so I would not get in trouble at my job? Will anyone even decide to read it when I share it to the public?

I have no idea what it was about my nervousness about sharing information about myself online, but for some reason it always made me question my confidence. I guess you can say that after reading so many other amazing blogs from bloggers and journalist from my local area, I questioned if I would ever be as good as them. One thing that you can know about me right now is that I am a very competitive person. However, this is something completely new to me and I just want to make sure that I put my best foot forward.

For the time being I think I am just going to let the wind take me wherever it wants to. There is no specific theme that you will see from my blog, I will just share whatever is on my mind and let my fingers do the writing for me. I really do hope that you all enjoy my blog and I am open to any feedback that readers would like to suggest.

At the end of the day, if I only have one reader or millions of readers, at least I can say that I did it. So without further or due, welcome to my blog, grab yourself a cup of coffee, a pastry, lunch, or whatever food you may have around you at the time of reading my blog posts. This is going to be an adventure that I want to be proud of and never forget.
